Sound Controls

bullitThe Sound Controls dialog box may be invoked from all parts of the program using the Preferences menu or by clicking the Sound Controls button. Sound controls retain their settings from one part of the program to another and are also retained from one session to the next.

bullitUsing the sound controls is mainly intuitive. The slider labeled ATTACK is used to control the attack or sharpness of the sound. You can check the settings you have chosen by pressing TEST. You can also look at the actual waveform generated by selecting the appropriate picture in the Lessons part of the program. All the sound controls work identically if you are using the built-in PC speaker rather than a sound card.

bullitThe Sound Controls dialog box does not let you set the word speed or the character rate of the Morse code being generated. These are controlled by dialog boxes specific to the Lessons and Exercises parts of the program while in PENTODE these values are out of the user's control. If you want to test the sound at a faster speed (e.g.) go into Exercises and use the Exercise Dialog Box to set the speed you want and then invoke the Sound Controls from there.

bullitIf, after having adjusted all the controls, you still get annoying clicks, you may have a defective sound card wave driver or an old sound card that is not fully Windows compatible.
